Meet the incredible wildlife of Bird Island in the Seychelles. Sit back and soak up island life.

Ever since I studied Island Environments as part of my Geography degree course, I have been intrigued by the often unique wildlife found on islands. During that university course I studied the unique coral island of Aldabra in the Seychelles archipelago and became fascinated by the Giant Tortoises that lived on the remote island in the Indian Ocean and hoped that one day I might come face to face with such amazing creatures in their natural habitat.

In 2018 the opportunity arose to take a trip to the Seychelles for a short holiday on the granite islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. While these islands were beautiful, quintessential tropical islands with lots of photographic opportunities, something was missing - those free roaming Aldabra Giant Tortoises I longed to encounter! Taking a trip to Aldabra is very expensive and a logistical nightmare, but there is an alternative... Bird Island in the Seychelles. This island nature reserve and eco-resort is accessible by light aircraft from Mahe and has a large population of wild Giant Tortoises along with numerous species of birds, as well as stunning white sand beaches and the chance to see nesting Sea Turtles!
